Originating from the Hindu legend where the god Indra wielded it as a weapon, the Buddha transformed the vajra into an instrument of peace. This transformation imbued the vajra with new meanings of indestructible truth and wisdom, symbolized by its term "diamond or adamantine," which alludes to its hardness and clarity. In Shingon Buddhism, the vajra (Japanese: kongõ-sho) represents the unbreakable force of truth that cuts through obstacles, illustrating the victorious power of knowledge over ignorance and the mind over passions.
