Kogetsu was a culmination of patience and skill to extract the transient fragrance of osmanthus and let it infuse a precise mixture of Mysore sandalwood and Australian sandalwood powder with some camphor added. It was inspired by the blossoming of osmanthus flowers during the mid autumn mooncake festival where family reunions are traditionally celebrated. People in the past have always gathered under osmanthus trees to have tea and mooncakes while gazing at the silvery moon that particular full moon night. Though we see not the ancient moon, but it is still the same moon which had illuminated the night for our ancestors. It is my hope that this incense will bring the warmth of family ties and this ardent hope for reunion to everyone.
The osmanthus flowers were harvested last autumn and dried over time before extracting the fragrance via steam distillation. Camphor was added to add a sliver of refreshing coolness which resembles the soothing serenity of the moon. A mixture of sandalwood as the base provides a perceptible texture and faceted olfactory profile which is elegantly classic and yet not monotonous. Though the process was laborious and time consuming, but this artisanal handmade incense carries my sincere wish to bring peace and joy to the user.
