A Forgotten Chapter of Aromatic History

Finally... finally—we present one of the rarest forms of vintage Mysore sandalwood, the kind that echoes the ancient forests recorded even in the Arthashastra. This is Mysore Bogwood Sandalwood, a marvel formed when sandalwood logs—often fallen trees or root structures—become encapsulated in marshy soil. Over time, all fibrous matter erodes, leaving behind only the densest, resin-rich heartwood: weathered, grey, and hardened by nature’s alchemy.

Visually, it resembles elephant hide—dark, matte, and stoic. But slice it open, and the truth is revealed: deep brown resin bleeds out, occasionally tinged with grey-green hues. Some traders have called it “gloomy” sandalwood, but we avoid the term—it fails to honor the authenticity and mystery of this rare wood, and we distance ourselves from any artificial reproductions that mimic it.

What we offer here are bead spinning scraps from high-grade Mysore bogwood—a rarity, encountered in single-digit percentages even among veteran traders. The scent is unforgettable: a robust medicinal opening, an almost masculine axillary sharpness, angular and potent—followed by a flood of rich, juicy santalols. It’s visceral. It’s bold. It’s uniquely Mysore.

Mysore sandalwood has many terroirs and tonalities. Such as the lactonic softness of Tamil Nadu, the floral elegance of Karnataka, the caramel warmth of Shivamogga, the creamy nuttiness of central Mysore and here: the dark, medicinal, ancestral scent of sandalwood bogwood.

I’ve contemplated hydro-distilling it—but its rarity and cost (several times higher than other vintages) have made me hesitate. Instead, I’ve chosen to offer it affordably—as an educational reference material for true lovers of Mysore sandalwood. Everyone deserves to experience this forgotten note of the past.

Comes in 5g bottle.
