A Recipe from the Tokugawa Period
The Eight Millennium incense powder is based on an exclusive incense used by the Japanese nobility during the Tokugawa period, the kneaded nerikoh from Yamadamatsu made famous by Emperor Nakamikado and the aristocratic Reizei family of the Fujiwara Clan.
A recipe that went through careful reconstruction by Kyarazen, Eight Milleniums is an incense well loved by many whom have had experienced it in the stick format. This powder version exudes the same elegance and fills the air with dignified presence, transporting you back in time over a century ago, into the hallways of the Reizei Family house.
“The Reizei Family house at the north of the Imperial palace, surrounded by gardens of exquisite green pines, contrasting with the grey gravels on the ground that are carefully raked into patterns. The sliding cypress screen doors made of washi-paper slides open, allowing this precious incense to waft through elegantly through the cool crisp air. A wisp of solitude, a sense of longing, a sphere of tranquility, and a moment of awareness. This is Eight Milleniums, an incense with its name taken from a Japanese poem. ”
