Every retreat to the sacred sanctums in the mountain temples in Japan, brings about retrospect, new perspectives, insights and inspirations. Makafushigina was a scent that was deeply inspired and crafted from such retreats, the birth of this perfume aimed to recreate the experience of using high quality agarwood based “zukoh” powdered incense, as the powder spreads and gets oxidized upon usage, the spices, resins and fragrant wood.
MFG “Winter” Edition is KZ’s latest iteration, drawing in the experiences from KZ’s visits to Hieizan/Sakamoto, the various temples important to Tendai-shu and Taimitsu.
The cool misty hikes, the air moist and nourishing. The warmth glow of the lanterns lining the rocky path down to Dai-benzaitendo. The aged old Hinoki structures of the inner sanctums where the most mysterious gods are kept behind closed doors in cabinets, away from public view, the surfaces fragrant with delicate incense, as prayers and offerings are done daily. The punctuated clash of the gong marking the end of each mantra recitation offered to the deities, the sonorous voice of a monk performing morning service piercing through the still silence. In MFG “winter” edition, Japanese styrax, hydro-distilled Japanese Hinoki, and two jinkoh-agarwood (Vietnam & brunei) extraits in alcohol are used to deepen this fragrance, giving it richness, smooth silkness and a tranquil depth. “Zukoh” is used to cleanse, and we hope this edition of Makafushigina will be able to give you the vibes and confidence in striding into an exciting 2026. 15ml / bottle.
