*Important information – for those whom have had dealt with essential oils before will know that transferring and pipetting/bottling oils, especially viscous ones, is a rather lossy process, which ends up in precious aromatics stuck in the pipette tip, on the walls of transfer vessels, funnels, etc. As such, when we offer 30ml versions of certain oils, this greatly decreases the handling loss, and also saves on manpower, handling and bottle costs, which allows us to offer a more discounted price if you compare it at the per ml level.

In the ancient halls of southern Chinese temples, amidst rising incense and rhythmic prayers from the devotees, the Fingered Citron known as 佛手 rests in stillness upon the gilt-lacquered chanap, a hexagonal altar offering box featuring openwork panels of auspicious figures used to elevate ritual offerings with reverence. Its outstretched golden fingers, reaching skyward, are not fruit to be eaten, but prayers carved in rind — a fragrant gesture of reverence and auspicious intent. For the people of Fujian and Chaozhou, this gnarly yet sacred citrus is more than symbolic. It is a divine intermediary, and a staple in both medicinal craft and ritual devotion.

This hydrodistilled essence, extracted from fruits harvested in spring’s awakening, does not shout like lemon nor sparkle like bergamot. Instead, it resonates in low, sonorous tones — meditative, almost holy. One breath yields a deep, resinous citrus, soft as temple bells at dawn, with undertones of ginger-root warmth, herbal complexity, and a light balsamic coolness. It conjures not orchards but sanctuaries, not refreshment but clarity of spirit.

As described in the Bencao Gangmu (《本草纲目》): “佛手,香烈性温,开郁理气,辟邪而定心。” "Fingered citron — fragrant, warming, disperses stagnation, wards off malevolence, and calms the heart."

A tonic for the soul, a sanctified perfume of ancient halls — this is not merely citrus; this is a scent of stillness, of incense and prayer.
