Fashioned in an elegant flat, round form (平丸), this incense burner rests on three sturdy legs, each adorned with subtle relief motifs that echo the refined artistry of Japan’s master metal casters. Delicate details continue along the upright handles and culminate in the perforated lid crowned by a spirited lion finial (獅子蓋), a classic symbol of protection and auspicious energy. This Hiramaru Shishigai Koteiro Koro is a superb example of Takaoka Copperware, a celebrated traditional craft from Takaoka in Toyama Prefecture with over 400 years of metalworking heritage.
Finished in Koteiro (古手色), an antique-style patina that lends the bronze a sense of timeless dignity, this koro is not merely a vessel for incense but a sculptural expression of quiet luxury. Its harmonious proportions and intricate workmanship invite both daily use and contemplative appreciation — a true heirloom piece rooted in Japan’s enduring aesthetic traditions.
